Zimbabwe’s only female croc farmer blazes a trail
VIMBAI Dzingirai (32), a crocodile farmer based in Harare, starts off her day by flushing out dirty water from the ponds and refilling them. While the pools house a float of freshwater Nile crocodiles, she has become familiar with them and has learnt how to maintain their hygiene without agitating their temper. “Depending on their moods, they can be very territorial and aggressive if you enter their space and get too close on certain days,” Dzingirai told The NewsHawks.

One of the winners yesterday, Mr Cois Joubert of Milrite farm in Chipinge implored youth farmers to run the farm on the ground for them to succeed. “It is important to note that there is no farmer that runs on its own, there is no one person running a farm, it is a team, the entire value chain. “You will not be able to run a farm from anywhere other than the farm, you need to put boots on the ground,” said Mr Joubert. The farmer of the year was Taremekedzwa Chidawanyika while Wiriranai Ngwaru clinched the small scale farmer of t he year award. The female farmer of the year was Vimbai Dzingirai.
